Why Do We Need to Talk About Mental Health?

When thinking of mental health we should stray away from assuming that its only important when we feel bad—its something that affects how we think, feel, and function every single day. But even though it plays such a big role in our lives, it’s still something people often avoid talking about. Whether it’s out of fear, shame, or just not knowing where to start, that silence can be harmful.

When we talk openly about mental health, we make it easier for ourselves and others to feel seen and supported. Conversations help break the stigma and show that things like anxiety, stress, or depression aren’t signs of weakness—they’re part of being human. And when we treat mental health with the same care we give our physical health, we start building a culture where healing and growth are possible.

Talking about mental health also helps us better understand ourselves and the people around us. It creates space for empathy, connection, and even growth—because when someone feels safe to be honest about what they’re going through, it opens the door to real healing.

Whether it’s with a friend, a counselor, or just journaling your thoughts, expressing what you’re feeling is a powerful step forward. We don’t have to have it all figured out—but being willing to talk about it is a meaningful place to start.
